Observer dispatch obituaries5/19/2023 ![]() Bill was the light of our lives and losing him suddenly was too much to bear for all of us. We would also like to express our deep appreciation for all of the outpouring of love and support from family and friends both here in the United States and Great Britain. The family would like to thank George Acee, Ann Spina, Donna Kapes and Jane Leslie for their support during a very difficult and traumatic time in our lives. Some of the young ones had the privilege and pleasure of traveling with Uncle Bill in England. Bill and Bob have a very large loving family of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Donald and Catherine Wittman, Clifford and Marianne Wittman are Bill’s beloved in-laws. Also surviving are his brother, Barry (Donna) Bartle and sister, Junice (Edward) Walker. Bill always looked out for the wounded or the victim.īill is survived by his partner, Robert Wittman and their son, Henry. Bill had a soft spot in his heart for cats, dogs and birds, one was never enough for him. He raised mason bees, monarch butterflies and birds. He also volunteered his time to photograph requested graves and headstones for Find-A-Grave.īill had a love of nature and animal life. He was able to trace his own ancestry to 170 AD. Upon his retirement Bill was able to develop his skills as a researcher of genealogy. Bill enjoyed learning about the history of the countries that he visited. It was estimated that he had crossed the Atlantic Ocean over fifty times. He traveled throughout the British Isles, Denmark, Europe and the Mediterranean. Bill developed strong loving ties with his large extended family in England. His mother, Nellie and sister, Margaret were born in England. ![]() ![]() Bill retired from employment with the Bank of America.Īs a young man Bill traveled frequently to England to be with his maternal relatives. Bill grew up in the West Winfield area and attended Mount Markham School. His partner of nearly forty years, Robert Wittman, was by his side.īill was born to William and Nellie (Reynolds) Bartle in 1954. Bill died unexpectedly of natural causes in London, England, on Sunday, July 10. The family of William (Bill) Bartle announces his death.
